While this commission diverged from my usual style, this commission was so much fun to make. The brief was to use some of the metal and three stones from an old family 18ct white gold and sapphire brooch, to make a new necklace in a traditional, pretty yet understated style. The necklace was to be a gift from two daughters to their wonderful mother for her 60th birthday.
Hen melting down old metal, you never quite know what you’re working with, but this gold behaved beautifully. I melted and milled down most into fine wire, before making three 6-claw double gallery settings to fit the selected sapphires.
For the fluer-de-lis finials, I first filed and shaped a silver version, which was used to create a mould in delft sand to make two white gold versions.
Once everything was constructed, with the pendant sits within the chain. It turned out to be such a lovely piece of jewelry, and I’m thrilled it brought so much joy to its recipient!
